Crossroads is a series of ten paintings drawn from the spirit of Lisbon, Portugal — a city that has stood for centuries at the edge of the known world, where explorers departed and returned transformed, and where the currents of human culture have long converged and recombined into something entirely new. This collection takes that city as both subject and metaphor: a place where the sea reminds us that we are more capable than we seem.

The paintings continue and deepen a visual language developed across previous bodies of work, built now with more layers — physical accumulations of paint that mirror the passage of time itself. Each surface holds traces of what came before: old marks partially obscured, new ones asserting themselves, the record of a process that is never fully erased. In this way, the work reflects on memory and anticipation simultaneously, looking back at old histories while imagining the futures that grow from them.

The series was born from the tension between creation and destruction — the understanding that what is new must often rise from the ruins of what was. Lisbon itself knows this intimately. These paintings inhabit that same space: the threshold between what has been lost and what is becoming possible.

My hope is that viewers find in these works a kind of permission — to sit with history as a source of comfort rather than constraint, and to recognize that the change we fear is also the change that frees us. These are paintings about the self-discovery that comes with accepting the inevitability of transformation, and about finding new vision on the other side of it.

Acrylic & oil stick on raw canvas, created winter 2026.
