Marguerite Marcella is a multidisciplinary artist based in Austin and Marfa, Texas. She received her BA in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016, and spent the years that followed in Los Angeles — using the city as an extended art school, working in the worlds of music, film, and fine art before returning to Texas in 2022 to dedicate herself fully to her studio practice.

She believes the role of the artist is to respond to the times we live in. For Marguerite, abstraction is a deliberate choice — an antidote to the hyper-realized, chaotic, and often uncontrollable circumstances of modern life. Her paintings offer something rarer: contemplation, relief, and portals to deeper meaning. She considers herself a painter of light, in both a practical and metaphysical sense.

Much like the natural world, her work evokes a sense of awe. Her palettes and compositions carry a soothing frequency — one that connects to each viewer individually, the way color and memory always do: personally, privately, and differently for everyone. Her paintings invite us to reevaluate how we see, and to use art as a form of emotional connection and release.

Her practice is rooted in a lifelong dialogue with art history, drawing on artists who pushed at the edges of the visible — from Cézanne and Georgia O’Keeffe to the Fauvist intensity of Matisse and Derain; from the Color Field expanses of Helen Frankenthaler, Rothko, Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still, Kenneth Noland, and Morris Louis, to the gestural freedom of Joan Mitchell, Lee Krasner, and Pollock; to the pure, immersive light of James Turrell and Dan Flavin. These are not simply influences — they are an ongoing conversation, absorbed and then made new.

Her process aims to alchemize personal experience into new worlds and horizons. Each painting is an invitation to cross into one.
